History
Park Mechanical, Sacramento’s leader for quality HVAC and Indoor Air Quality sales, service and installation, was born when two long-standing area family-owned businesses merged in 1978.
D.H McAlpine Plumbing and Heating was founded in 1911 by Dougal H. McAlpine who, working out of his east Sacramento garage, earned the respect of his clients by providing reliable and knowledgeable services for their heating and plumbing systems. His son, Dougal G. McAlpine continued the business after his father’s death in 1955 and his own son, Dougal A. McAlpine joined the business in 1964 after graduating from St. Mary’s College in 1963. After serving as an apprentice he worked in the field before purchasing the company in 1977 when his father retired.
Park Sheet Metal Works was founded in 1920 by John Ryan and began operations on Sacramento Boulevard (now Martin Luther King Boulevard) in Oak Park. During the 1930s the company manufactured and installed Ryan Furnaces in numerous Sacramento homes. The family tradition continued as Dwight Benbow and then Bob Walker led the company.
Recognizing a common service philosophy and shared mission, the two firms merged in 1978 to provide extended services to the entire Sacramento region. Park Mechanical was initially led by partners Bob Walker, Jack Clark, Earl Flint and Duke McAlpine. Bob Walker passed away in 1979; Jack Clark retired in 1988; and Earl Flint left in 1992 to begin an HVAC distribution company, CFM Equipment Distribution. Duke McAlpine continued with the help of his wife Linda and their two sons, John and Jeff. They joined in the operation in 1995 and 1996, respectively.
